About Me
My path to becoming a psychotherapist was shaped by both rigorous clinical training and deeply personal experience.
Years ago, my family endured an unimaginable trauma when my mother survived a kidnapping by an FBI-wanted serial killer. She helped the authorities catch him, then befriended him, up until the day he was executed. I grew up with the story as a backdrop to my childhood, sparking a lifelong curiosity with human nature, intrinsic human value, trauma and its longterm/intergenerational impacts, forgiveness, compassion (for self and others), and healthy boundaries. It also helped me develop an ability to separate people from their problems (a narrative therapy staple), while also understanding the vital importance of honestly addressing problems and taking true accountability. I can now find the humanity and hope in most every situation, no matter how impossible it may seem.
More recently, supporting my mom through the complex and often nonlinear process of healing, gently peeling back hidden layers while using somatic regulation techniques (as she -and I- worked on writing the story of her full traumatic, anomalous, and incredible experience), I developed a new fascination with resilience, the nervous system, epigenetics, and the ways we adapt, survive, and grow after adversity. Ultimately, that journey led me back to graduate school and into the field of psychotherapy.
The talented Vanity Fair staff, whom I worked closely with for months -and am now friends with, that put together the 2023 article about my mom's kidnapping, made the following observation: "It was only when Palm [my mom] began writing about the experience with the help of Noelle about 10 years ago that she began processing what happened to her on a deeper level. Noelle has since become a marriage and family therapist specializing in trauma, and she emits empathy like an essential-oil diffuser." While the phrasing still humbles me (and makes me laugh a bit), it captures something essential about the way I approach my work: with warmth, curiosity, and deep respect for the complexity of being human.
I earned my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University and have worked with clients across a wide range of treatment settings throughout Los Angeles. My clinical experience includes supporting adolescents and their families in residential treatment (RTC), partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs; working with adults and seniors in outpatient psychiatric care; and providing therapy to court-involved youth in residential settings. And, for over five years now, I've had my private practice.
I have had the privilege of working with kids, parents, couples, high-achieving executives, entertainment professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, and survivors of trauma, ranging from grade-schoolers to those in their seventies. I have extensive experience supporting clients navigating anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, grief, depression, relationship and family conflict, leadership stress, identity development, body image concerns, fertility journeys, loneliness, dating, marriage, breakup, divorce, life transitions, and the lasting effects of trauma and sexual abuse. As well as with many members of the LGBTQIA+ community, including individuals exploring and discovering important aspects of their identities during therapy.
My practice integrates neurobiology, data-driven neuroscience, somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), depth psychology, systems thinking, attachment theory, EMDR-informed interventions, evidence-based mindfulness practices, and expressive arts therapies. I believe that healing often happens at the intersection of mind, body, relationships, and environment (and spirit, however one defines it). It is an honor to explore with my clients, and learn their unique nervous systems' wiring, emotional pattern mapping, family dynamics, attachment styles, and the unconscious stories that shape their lives... and to find the unique set of keys to help them unlock their personal agency, autonomy, magnetism, and magic.
My professional development has been enriched by training with leaders in the field, including Dr. Veronica Barenstein, Director of UCLA’s Family and Couples Therapy Program and a direct trainee of Structural Family Therapy pioneer Salvador Minuchin; Dr. Pat Allen, creator of the groundbreaking Open Studio art therapy approach; and Dr. Kristen Zaleski, trauma expert, author, human rights advocate, and founder of the Human Rights Clinic at USC’s Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. As well as attending seminars with Esther Perel, Brené Brown, Krista Tippett, Mirabai Starr, and Father Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries, to name a few.
Before becoming a therapist, I studied at the University of Texas at Austin and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Advanced Studio Art Painting Program. I spent years working in art, fashion, design, and interior décor in New York City, the Hamptons, Dallas, and Los Angeles. And, much earlier on, I nannied for young children in some very glamorous locales. These experiences continue to inform my appreciation for creativity, beauty, ambition, and the unique pressures that often accompany highly visible, high-performing lives.
My work is informed not only by clinical training, but by lived experience. Therapy has profoundly shaped my own life, deepening my understanding of mental health, relationships, trauma, body attunement, overall wellness, and true healing. Along the way, I have experienced both transformative therapeutic relationships and less-than-helpful ones -experiences that have strengthened my commitment to creating a space where clients feel genuinely seen, respected, and understood.
I have a particular affinity for highly sensitive individuals, late-identified neurodivergent adults, fatigued overachievers, creatives, perfectionists, and those navigating complex family systems or families that feel like high-pressure dynasties. I believe in the healing potential of nature, art, mindfulness, spirituality, and exploring the unconscious through dreams, symbolism, creativity, and self-reflection, while also being evidence-based in my approaches.
I recognize that healing is never one-size-fits-all. My role is not to prescribe a singular path, but to help you discover the approaches that resonate most deeply with your unique experiences, values, and goals.
Whether you are navigating trauma, burnout, relationship challenges, identity questions, family conflict, or simply a sense that something in your life needs recalibration, therapy can offer a space for insight, healing, and meaningful change. Together, we can cultivate a deeper understanding of your inner world, your priorities, hopes, dreams -and build a life that feels more grounded, connected, and fully your own.
