Teens!

I have SO much to say on this topic. I will continue to update this section. But, the bulk of my therapeutic training was in teen treatment residential facilities, PHPs (partial hospitalization programs), and IOPs (intensive outpatient programs) for teens and their families in Malibu, Topanga Canyon, and West LA, as well as in juvenile foster care and residential detention centers. So my experience treating teenagers and supporting their family systems is vaster and more extensive than most. In fact, most clinicians actively avoid teens and, while training and gaining hours for licensure, did the least amount of child/family hours mandated. Teens are notoriously tricky to understand, assess, treat, and support because of the myriad intersectional stressors complicating their lived experiences.

The struggles teens are facing internally —with their changing bodies, hormones, brain chemistry & wiring, as well as externally —with cultural and societal pressures in this ever-changing world, are immeasurable. They feel deeply. Their world is highly intense and dramatic. They are terrified and bold and passionate and  sensitive.

Will add a more thorough section soon.
